Car Insurance Your Questions

You can find the answers to our most frequently asked questions below. These answers relate to A+ Car Insurance and therefore may not apply to all the insurers and underwriters we work with.

The Basics

What is car insurance?

Car insurance is a legal requirement. Every motorist is required by law to have insurance for their vehicle, providing cover for you and other named drivers in the event of driving-related damage or injury.

What is the difference between comprehensive and third party fire and theft insurance?

Comprehensive covers damage to your car as a result of accident, fire or theft as well as cover for windscreen damage. You are also covered for third party damage if you have an accident. Comprehensive cover includes other items such as personal accident/injury, death of policyholder, medical expenses, personal effects and in–car entertainment. Third party fire and theft covers damage to your car as a result of fire or theft and covers for third party damage if you have an accident.

What is an excess?

An excess is the amount you must pay in the event of any claim, regardless of who is to blame for an incident. It varies depending on the car that is covered, the age and experience of the drivers on your policy.

Can i opt to pay a voluntary excess?

Yes, if you have Comprehensive cover you may get a discount on the premium if you agree to pay towards the cost of any claim for loss of or damage to your vehicle. This will apply in addition to any compulsory policy excesses.

Do i have to tell you about my conviction(s)?

You must advise us of any motoring or non-motoring convictions, including pending convictions when taking out a policy. You must also advise us immediately of any new convictions once you have taken the policy. Failure to disclose any material information or inaccuracies in the information given could invalidate your insurance cover and mean that part or all of your claim may not be paid.

If i have made claims previously will this effect my quote?

No, we do not weight your quote or premium if you have made any claims. However unfortunately we cannot quote if you have made one or more claims in the past 12 months totalling or exceeding the bicycle value.
