Claims Centre Your Questions

You can find the answers to our most frequently asked claims questions below. This questions and answers offer general guidance and the outcome or answer can and does vary from insurer to insurer. Please check wit your insurer before or whilst making a claim.

Home Insurance

How do I make a home insurance claim?

Simply give the relevant claims line a call and report your claim - you will need your policy number to give to the advisor.

Do I need proofs of purchase for the items I am claiming for?

It would be very helpful if you could produce the receipt. But we appreciate that these may not always be kept, or may get lost or destroyed. We'll discuss with you what documentation is needed when you contact us with your claim.

Will my premium increase at the next renewal date if I make a claim on my home insurance?

We'll prepare a home insurance renewal invitation, including quotation, for you when you're due to renew. We automatically include a discount if you haven't claimed, which is called a no claims discount, so you're likely to pay more if you've made a claim. As well as your renewal quote, we'll show you last year's premium on your renewal invitation.

What are my excesses?

Please refer to your policy schedule for a full breakdown of yor excesses. You can visit Your A+ to view and download a copy of your schedule or contact us and we can provide this information.

What happens after I’ve told you about my claim?

When you report your claim we'll decide what actions needed and discuss what happens next. Because all claims are different, how we progress your claim and how long it takes will depend on the details of the claim itself.

Car Insurance

How do I make a car insurance claim?

Simply give the relevant claims line a call and report your claim - you will need your policy number to give to the advisor.

What happens if my car is stolen?

The first thing you should do is report the theft to the nearest police station and obtain a crime reference number. Then contact the relevant claims line who will take the details from you. After this, a number of insurance industry database checks are carried out - these are designed to protect customers from fraud. A Claims Assessor may also be appointed to discuss the claim with you. When enquiries are successfully completed an offer will be made to settle the claim.

Who repairs my car?

One of the insurers Approved Repairers will repair your car. Approved Repairers are garages that have been appointed by the insurer to provide the highest customer service and quality of repairs for their customers.

What is a total loss?

If the cost of repairs exceed the market value of your car then it is likely it will considered to be beyond economic repair. This is often referred to as a total loss or  write-off.

What happens if the accident was not my fault?

The first priority is to get your car repaired, or a settlement to you if it is a total loss (write-off). After this, the insurer may try to recover their outlay from the person responsible for the accident. If successful then in many circumstance making the claim will not affect your No Claims Bonus.
